favorite quotes from "Eight"

Eight is Enough is one of my all-time favorite shows, running neck-and-neck with The Munsters.
I have collected many quotes from "Eight" through the years--about 100 in all. Although I
never saw the show in prime time, I became a big fan during its syndication era. Here's a
list of some of their quotes which reached #1 on my weekly top 100 quote chart
(wording is approximate):
3/15/85 Susan: "Do you have a girlfriend, Merle?"Merle: "If you had asked me that a couple
days ago, I would have said no."
4/25/86 It's not whether or not we win the contest...it's whether we find a cure for
cancer...it's whether we're straight with each other-Tom Sr.
8/15/86 This is where people come to act artificial so they can forget how miserable
3/13/87 I have the perfect name: "Cat." If I gave it any old name, it'd get confused,
so "Cat" it is-Nicholas, when he was allowed to adopt a stray cat in the episode where
Tommy met Janet for the first time
3/16/90 It's dog-eat-dog out there, and I'm going to be the baddest dog of them all!...
if you can't impress your little brother, you can't impress anybody-Tommy and Nicholas,
on Oct. 15, 1989 reunion show
2/15/91 Are you up against the bureaucratic stone wall, Nicholas?/So much for stone walls-Susan
More to come!
